- Get a VPN account
- Download VPN software, if necessary
- Select Start
- Select Control Panel
- Select Network Connections
- Select Network and Dial-Up Connections
- Select N ew Connection Wizard
- Select Next
- Choose Connect to the network at my workplace
- Select Next
- Choose Virtual Private Network connection
- Enter VPN providers name in box
- Select Next
- Choose Do not dial the initial connection
- Select Next
- Enter IP address in box provided by VPN service
- Select Next
- Enter VPN User Name
- Enter VPN Password
- Select Connect
You can now click on the VPN provider’s name on Network Connection when you want to enter the Internet through your provider. If you want to use an L2TP instead of a PPTP, you will have to perform the same steps, but once you get to the box that requests the user name and password, you will have to follow these additional steps:
- Instead of selecting Connect, select Properties
- Select Security at top of next page
- Select IPSec Settings on next page
- Check the box that says Use pre-shared key for authentication
- In the Key box, enter your VPN provider’s name
- Select OK
- Select Networking on next page
- In Type of VPN, Change Automatic to L2TP IPSec VPN
- Select OK
Now you can connect to your VPN service with using L2TP. All your privacy security is provided and you can begin going into cyber space through a secured connection.
