VyprVPN Customer Data Safe from Heartbleed

VyprVPN has announced that they were vulnerable to Heartbleed. Users of this top VPN service were not at risk from the bug, however. Golden Frog is preparing updates for their apps, but using the existing apps does not put users in danger.

VyprVPN apps used the OpenSSL version 1.0.1e. This is vulnerable to Heartbleed, but VyprVPN explained that the apps do not connect to servers that send packets from the compromised Heartbeat extension. VyprVPN apps only connect to VyprVPN servers, which have never used vulnerable OpenSSL versions. There is a possibility that VyprVPN apps can be deceived into connecting with malicious servers. But this does not affect users because the apps do not carry any user information. User privacy on VyprVPN is therefore intact.

Despite the assurance that user data is not at risk on VyprVPN servers, Golden Frog is preparing to update all of the VyprVPN apps. They also assure users that the VyprVPN website and associated Giganews website are not vulnerable, having used non-vulnerable SSL. The Dump Truck service has already been patched and new keys generated and applied. Dump Truck users can now safely change their passwords to secure themselves against Heartbleed exploits.

To change Dump Truck passwords, users can log in to their control panels and click on the “change username / password” link to type in the new password. VyprVPN recommends using a secure password that contains a combination of letters (uppercase and lowercase), numbers and symbols. Users need to confirm the change by clicking the button. And they should not forget to log out after the action is completed.
